The bloom of youth (from notebook)

The bloom of youth is an unearned beauty, an easy glow that has not had to be fought for or struggled with to maintain.  Much more interesting is a hard-bitten smile, a liveliness in the corners of the eyes that manages, against the heavy weight of frown lines, to defy even for a moment the downward pull of gravity.
